Kansas City is known as the “City of Fountains” and it is but I like to explore the hundreds of statues placed all over the city. I like the classic style of work where you have a piece that looks like someone rather than the newer abstract work. I have done some interesting things with those abstract pieces but statues that look like people (other than weeping angels) present an opportunity to work with a model that is a fixed point in time.
I try to see the real behind the everyday. That’s interesting to me because there just might be more than one real image there.
Assignment for the week: locate a few statues in your area and try to “see” what lives just beyond your normal vision. Then let me see them. I’ll comment on each one.
