As many of you know I had two knee replacements. Recovery from this surgery entails much more than the physical aspects of the legs and knees. The impact on your spirit is overwhelming. I wasn’t warned and didn’t anticipate this aspect of the surgery. There is no physical therapy to help you regain the use of your spirit. It is a fight you have to take up day by day and on your own. As you regain physical strength you do begin to feel better but that journey back to your prior level of activity from a mental and spiritual level track much slower than your body. For me it took almost two years to regain my passion, desire and drive to restart the effort to get Robin Randle published. The novel will be called, In The Region Where Madness Dwells § During the Time of Shadows – A Robin Randle Story. I know and that’s from a guy who likes one word titles.
I am changed after the knee replacement adventure. I haven’t returned to photography nor have I returned to active web development. I’m sure these things will come. But the one thing I am passionate about is seeing Robin Randle’s book get published. I know at sixty-six years of age I’m not going to play games with unwilling or unimaginative publishers. I did that in the movie business and succeeded but I just don’t have the time to play those games again. It seems the book publishing world is collapsing much like other traditional types of media distribution. In that I mean, music, film, art and the like. Most publishers are only interested in celebrity written books or best-selling authors. They don’t care anymore about authors writing to a smaller more eclectic audience. Translation, these publishers don’t care about these smaller eclectic audiences. I guess I don’t blame them. I mean it’s all about money isn’t it? So what to do?
I decided to join the indie nation as an independent author who will self publish for the time being. My hope is I will be able to reach the audience that may enjoy this book. As I prepare for this effort I will need your help. I see MailChimp in my future which means developing verified mailing list so people can be kept up to date on all the publishing goings on. I have a laundry list of things to do from blogging to website redesign. The book is finished, edited and ready to go. It is now in the hands of those doing the layout and cover artwork for both a nice paperback version and an eBook version.
I’m hoping to get a fan base built for Robin. She is worth it. I’m not going to ask for financial help through a fund site, I’m going to foot the bill myself this time. I believe in this novel. There’s more to the story of this book than I have told you and maybe I will share as time goes on. I ask you to support this inaugural effort. I will need your help and for that help I promise you there will be another Robin Randle novel coming soon. She just keeps bugging me. Her next book is called, Legends of the End – A Robin Randle Story and I’m 49,000 words into the manuscript as of today. It is a completely different kind of tale but 100% a Robin Randle story. I haven’t written a one-sheet for it yet but I will soon so I can tease you. If I get the support I need to launch my first Robin Randle novel then we can have fun bringing the second novel to publication. Stay tuned.
